- Ebo Riru :There are various types of Ebo (sacrifice) procedures; most of these offerings are presented to Èsú the divine messenger and guardian of truth and justice and are placed at one of his four designated positions. Upon receiving the offering, Èsú conveys the intended message to Olódùmarè, a fundamental aspect of his role as an Òrìsà. Once the *Ebo* is accepted, Olódùmarè brings the resulting blessings to our destiny. In the Yoruba religion, Ebo is absolutely essential—often mandatory—whenever a Dafa (Ifá divination) is performed and the sacrifice is prescribed by Ifá; it is a primary responsibility incumbent upon each individual by the decree of Olódùmarè. Offering sacrifice is an integral part of our existence; it brings us spiritual balance in relation to nature and the totality of thingsthe equilibrium we require. Ebo is the sole weapon bestowed by Olódùmarè to overcome the malevolent forces surrounding us: the *Ajogun* (warrior spirits). Ifá teaches that those who refuse to perform the prescribed Ebo risk being sent by Èsú to Ibi (the realm of malevolent forces) for their non-compliance, thereby drawing the attention of the warrior forces that govern the earth. For this reason, it is better not to consult Ifá at all than to consult Ifá, hear the prescribed sacrifice, and subsequently ignore it. If you do not intend to perform the *Ebo*, do not perform the Dafa!
